We’re looking forward to welcoming Sara Telahoun from 3ADAPT to our next meetup event on Thursday 18th July for our biodiversity themed session.
Sara’s talk is entitled ‘An evidence based, digital approach to sustainability and land management’ and will show us how 3ADAPT are taking a holistic approach to sustainability. Using the Six Capitals approach, supporting a variety of organisations including land owners, local authorities, utilities companies, universities and museums to help build decarbonisation plans and adapt to climate change. We’ll be hearing about how they are launching Landarna, the world’s first platform to assess, inform and report the holistic impact of land opportunities, enabling more people to make more sustainable land use decisions.

Sara very kindly answered a few questions giving us a sneak peak as to what to expect from her talk:
Have you always been interested in sustainability?
As a child I always had a keen interest in the natural environment – I used to subscribe to Wildlife magazine and loved reading about different species of animal and their habitats.
I originally studied Architecture at university but became increasingly interested in how buildings can be made sustainable using recycled materials and energy saving technologies. This helped me decide to do a Master’s degree in Environmental Management and Sustainable Development which then kick started my career in sustainability and climate change.
Can you tell us more about 3Adapt?
Established in 2017, 3ADAPT is a B Corp certified consultancy who offer sustainability and advisory services to our clients across the public, private and third sectors. Our ultimate intention is to have a positive environmental, social and financial impact. We have worked on a range of high-profile aspirational projects and organisations such as UKRI, The British Museum, Kew Gardens, Eden Project, Woodland Trust, English Heritage, National Lottery Heritage Fund and Yorkshire Water.
We believe that understanding detail and delivery is important in shaping strategy. We work across scales, supporting organisations to define and deliver their strategic objectives. This includes market analysis, stakeholder engagement, strategy, delivery framework development, implementation and benefits realisation support.
We have recently integrated some of our impact analysis capability into an innovative user friendly software platform called Landarna. This will support more organisations to work towards their sustainability goals at a faster pace and deliver positive change at a larger scale.
What is Landarna and how does it work?
Landarna is our in-house developed holistic land management platform which was built to address this issues around disparate data and the expensive consultancy required to identify suitable land management options limit sustainable outcomes. Landarna is solving this problem by rapidly collating a landowners land, cross pollinating this with a range of other datasets to understand constraints and opportunities for more sustainable options for:
- Residential and commercial development;
- Renewable energy generation; and
- Nature Based Solutions.
Combined with 3ADAPT’s consultancy team expertise we have developed a range of rapid assessment approaches for a variety of land opportunities to support public, private and third sector landowners systematically work towards their sustainability goals.
How does it stand out from any competitors out there?
Other land management platforms are overly specialised, typically focusing on one land opportunity or impact type and fail to holistically consider options across areas such as biodiversity, carbon, social impact, financial and manufactured impact. Landarna helps to influence and support decision making, making these impact areas less siloed. Our offer stands out by focusing on holistic sustainability impact assessments across diverse land use and project types supporting both acquisition of land and its development.
It emphasises nature-based solutions, carbon reduction, and sustainable development practices for large landowners at both a site (enabling options appraisal and business case development) and portfolio level to enable users to test the organisational impacts of different scenarios and enable aggregated reporting at a regional or organisational level.
What are your hopes for the product and for the rest of the year?
We are currently building up a portfolio of the different use cases where Landarna has supported more holistic land management decisions across our client base to showcase what the tool has to offer. We are facing a range of “emergencies” and “crises” and we are running out of time to solve them. We want to create a platform that enables everyone to have the best insight to make more sustainable land use decisions at an unprecedented scale and pace. Our target is to influence at least 5% of the UK’s land in the next 5 years with an emphasis on sustainably changing the world for the better!
Thanks Sara for the chat!
